Auckland City Council is proud to support the Designers Institute of New Zealand. Together we are achieving the goals under its action plan Blueprint: Growing Auckland’s creative industries.

Auckland is New Zealand's largest city. Uniquely set between two harbours, amongst extinct volcanoes and numerous islands in the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland city is a great place to live. The Auckland area was home to Maori for a thousand years before Europeans settled here. The recognised mana whenua, or indigenous people of Auckland are Ngati Whatua o Orakei. Auckland is now home to more than 181 different ethnic groups from all over the world, including the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world, and a growing Asian population.

Auckland City Council is the local government body responsible for Auckland city’s well-being, development and maintenance. In addition to managing day-today needs like rubbish collection, footpaths and storm water services, the council also works hard to support the economic development of the city and provide a supportive, active environment for people working and living in the city.

Auckland City Council’s work interacts with the city’s inhabitants in many different ways, including through city events, community arts, events and film facilitation, and economic development. There are also opportunities to advance your career or get involved in your city through Auckland City Council careers.

Auckland’s unique arts, culture, and creative enterprises are integral to the city’s buzz and economic success. With its wealth of talented and highly creative people and businesses, without a doubt Auckland is the home of New Zealand’s creative industries. Auckland City Council is proud to sponsor the Designers Institute of New Zealand to help achieve the goals under its action plan Blueprint: Growing Auckland's creative industries.
