To ensure that the work entered into the BeST Design Awards is recorded, the Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ) publishes the BeST Design Awards Annual.The Annual presents in a quality format, a record of New Zealand's design history and is both an essential reference book and a collector's item.

Any designer who has gained experience as a practising designer and who, in the opinion of the Council, has attained a high level of Professional competence.
A practising designer but who has either not applied for or not met the criteria required to become a professional member.
A newly-graduated practising designer. This applies for up to three years before you must upgrade to Associate Member.
Any student participating in a design-related course, who's not yet practising as a designer.
1. Any design consultancy offering design-related products or services
2. Or who is an employer of designers and supports the objectives of DINZ.
Any tertiary institute offering design-education related courses, and supports the objectives of DINZ.
1. Any company that is a supplier of products or services to designers.
2. Or who has an interest in being affiliated to design professionals, and supports the objectives of DINZ.
An international membership is open to New Zealanders who have moved overseas but who want to keep up-to-date with the NZ design scene. OR to international designers who are interesting in the NZ design scene.
Affiliate membership is open to any individual technical or professional specialist within a design related company, but not to a practicing designer.
